World Premiere of AML500

Makino launched the AML500 High Speed Laser Metal Deposition Additive Manufacturing Machine at Formnext 2023

Makino Asia today announced the launch of the AML500 Laser Metal Deposition (LMD) Machine to join its comprehensive machine portfolio.

  • This machine offers an enhanced High Speed LMD capability that enables customers to perform previously challenging prints on a robust, high performance platform.
  • Makino’s industrial manufacturing solutions now extend into Additive Manufacturing, where Makino commits to continuously promote innovation and strengthen partnerships to enable our customers to grow their business.

FRANKFURT, NOVEMBER 7,  2023 – Makino, a leading machine tools and solutions provider, announced the official product launch of AML500, a High-Speed Laser Metal Deposition (LMD) machine, in Formnext 2023, Germany.

Makino has integrated cutting-edge high speed laser metal deposition (HS-LMD) technology into its vertical machine centres. This integration empowers the 3D buildup, coating, and repairing of asymmetrical components. Leveraging decades of expertise in machine building, Makino has pushed the limits of machine performance, combined with our constant pursuit of quality into additive manufacturing technology. This innovative design not only facilitates a build rate that is five times faster than traditional LMD methods but also sets a new standard for efficiency in the industry.

The HS-LMD capabilities of the AML500 also enable the printing of finer geometries and layers with less thermal distortion of the substrate due to smaller heat affected zones. In addition, HS-LMD enables the processing of advanced materials, previously not possible with conventional LMD, opening up wider applications and opportunities for new alloy developments.

"We are extremely honored to have been selected by Makino Asia as a pilot customer for their novel high-speed LMD 5-axis machine. For us, this equipment is the perfect addition to our installed L-PBF and LMD machines/robots," said Christoph Hauck, toolcraft AG’s Executive Board Member. "We see outstanding advantages in the dynamics of the system, especially when processing materials that were previously prone to cracking. We expect further exciting applications in the area of multi-material applications."

Makino will continue to innovate and add capabilities to our AM products in the areas of productivity, automation, and digitalization to support the AM industrialization goals of our customers. Together with our extensive portfolio of subtractive machines and automation solutions, we will be your one stop solution provider to bring your AM parts to production.
