Makino Milling completed new Fujiyoshida Plant to meet increasing demand for large HMCs and 5-axis MCs.
TOYKO, MAY 18, 2026 – Makino Milling Machine Co., Ltd. officially unveiled its newly completed Fujiyoshida Plant in Fujiyoshida City, Shizuoka Prefecture. The new facility marks Makino’s third domestic production site, following the Atsugi Plant and the Fujikatsuyama Plant. Covering approximately 27,500 square meters, the plant is scheduled to commence operations in June. The facility consists of three main buildings: an automated warehouse, a unit assembly plant, and a main assembly plant. In addition, a reception building featuring two seminar rooms has been newly constructed adjacent to the main assembly plant.
Located at the foot of Mt. Fuji at an altitude of approximately 900 to 1,000 meters, the new plant benefits from a stable climate with minimal humidity fluctuations. To further support high-precision manufacturing, the facility is built on a reinforced foundation with ground improvements incorporating approximately 2,300 underground pillars. These measures create an optimal production environment for manufacturing high-precision machine tools.
The primary objective of the new plant is to reduce lead times for large horizontal machining centers (MCs) and 5-axis machining centers. In response to evolving market demands—including growth in the aerospace sector, increasing mold sizes driving demand for larger machines and 5-axis solutions, and rising energy-related requirements fueled by data center expansion—the company is strengthening its production capabilities for these machine categories. The new factory is expected to manufacture 21 models from the company’s current portfolio of 101 machine models.
The new factory is designed to establish a highly efficient logistics flow. Built around the principles of “no reverse movement,” “no crossing,” and “no bottlenecks,” the production flow—from parts supply to final assembly—moves in a single direction, enhancing both operational efficiency and workplace safety.
In addition, the main assembly plant provides ample capacity for large machine production, featuring a column spacing of 25 meters and a ceiling height of 14 meters. The facility layout has also been designed with flexibility in mind, allowing it to adapt efficiently to changes in production demand. Makino also highlighted that the plant will support a flexible manufacturing system capable of accommodating model shifts and changing market demand, including transitions toward smaller and medium-sized machine production.
During the factory tour held that day, the interiors of both the unit assembly plant and main assembly plant were opened to visitors. The tour featured assembly demonstrations of several machine models scheduled for production at the new facility, including the 5-axis horizontal machining center “MAG3.EX” for aircraft aluminum structural component machining, the 5-axis horizontal machining center “T2” designed for difficult-to-machine materials such as titanium, and the horizontal machining center “a120nx” for semiconductor manufacturing equipment component processing.
