The a51nx is a 400mm, 40-taper production horizontal machining center. The a51nx and the larger a61nx share key machine technologies that take part productivity, accuracy and machine reliability to the next level.  Robust casting design and large roller-type linear guides ensure that the entire a51nx work envelope can be effectively utilized.


The 14,000-rpm high-speed, high-power spindle features 303 Nm of torque.  The machines stiffness and rigidity supports thorough utilization of the spindle power and torque to tackle ferrous applications that traditionally would be run on 50 taper machines.

Technical Specifications

Multiple technologies on the a51nx reduce non-cut time, providing benefits in automotive and high volume part production.  An Inertia Active Control system monitors motor load and estimates total fixture weight.  With this information IAC optimizes the motion acceleration and deceleration of the heavily utilized B and Z-axis.  The spindle takes full advantage of the duty rated torque to optimize start / stop responsiveness, leading to 20% reduction in tapping time compared to the previous model. 

A standard Vision type Broken Tool Sensor resides in the ATC magazine where it automatically confirms the condition of drills, taps and other single point tools.  Unique single piece way-cover design, dual-supported tool-change arm and Makino spindle technology provide the foundation for industry-leading reliability.
