UP6 H.E.A.T.

Wire EDM

Designed to produce the ultimate in precision with unparalleled thermal stability and the highest level of construction accuracy.

The UP6 H.E.A.T. Wire EDM is designed for Ultra Precision machining, and is capable of achieving work piece positional accuracies of 1 micron (0.00004”) over its entire travel.  This level of precision in unheard of in a large stoke machine, which enables the UP6 H.E.A.T. to deliver some very unique and game-changing capabilities.  The UP6 H.E.A.T. machine is ideally suited to produce large progressive die stamping plates and fine blanking dies, or other ultra-precision part applications.

Technical Specifications

TStrict long-term thermal stability is a key engineering principal of the UP6 H.E.A.T. design, and one element of this is the integration of the water di-electric reservoir into the base casting of the machine, which minimizes floor space while helping to maintain the entire machine structure at a contact temperature.  Additionally, the machine employs active thermal cooling of its structure where chilled di-electric fluid is circulated through the main machine components for further improvement of thermal stability.  The work tank seal-plate also includes an active washing system to clean, thermally stabilize, and lubricate the assembly to minimize friction.

The UP6 H.E.A.T. machine utilizes a stationary work table design that helps improve positional accuracy, as the machine is moving a constant mass regardless of work piece weight or di-electric fluid fill height.  The machine uses a programmable rise and fall 3-sided work tank that provides excellent ergonomic access to the work zone, and this configuration also simplifies requirements for automation.  The machine also features a new Wire Drive and Wire Threading system, called HyperDrive Extreme, that improves the performance capabilities of the machine.  The new Wire Drive system use an AC motor tensioning system that expands the range and stability of wire tension, and reduces maintenance requirements.  The new Wire Threading system provides flexibility of both Jet and Jet-less threading modes, and can rethread the wire in the gap at a break point.

The UP6 H.E.A.T. uses the intuitive and revolutionary Hyper-i control that features a large 24” class HD touch screen that operates like a common smart-phone or tablet.  The Hyper-i control delivers a common interface that is used on both Makino Wire and Sinker EDM machines, and contains many helpful advanced functions that support the needs of the operator to boost productivity.  The machine is also standard with the Makino’s HyperConnect IIoT network connectivity function for remote machine monitoring and interconnectivity of all manufacturing information.  HyperConnect provides remote monitoring of the machine via a PC or enabled smart device, and allows access to all networked PC software, such as CAD/CAM systems, to run directly on the Hyper-i control for added convenience for the operator.
