International Research and Development (IRD) Centre in Singapore is the only Research and Development (R&D) facility of Makino outside of Japan.
The S$75 million centre develops and enhances the human and intellectual capital of not just Makino, but Singapore as well. It houses talents recruited globally from various fields and serve as a hotbed for new ideas, technologies, or products generation, resulting in the creation of valuable intellectual properties.
With Makino’s staff working in tandem with research scientists and resources from SIMTech, equipment usage cost are reduced; testing and prototyping expedited thereby allowing new ideas, technologies, or products to reach the market faster.
In view of the expected rise in demand for customized-design and specialized machine tools, the centre will spearhead machine tool research in innovative technology servicing various sectors such as medical, bio-science, clean energy and power generation, agricultural and in areas of nanotechnology using exotic and composite materials.
By integrating knowledge bases from different fields and the a hands-on skill of making, designing, testing and solving problems in the real world, the centre will make a difference in the world of machine tool design.
Makino is the originator of high-speed spindles for commercial use. With spindles able to achieve speeds of 20,000 rpm and above, it’s no wonder we are the undisputed leader in high-speed high-efficiency machining center technology. Makino machines will deliver precise statistical performance and dramatically reduced cycle times.
